Fiorina Responds to Trump Attack on Her Appearance: I Think Women Heard Very Clearly What He Said

September 16, 2015

During Wednesday's night Republican presidential debate, CNN host Jake Tapper gave presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina a chance to respond to the attacks that Donald Trump had made against her appearance.

Trump had previously said about Fiorina"Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?"

Trump later backtracked by saying that he was merely talking about her persona and not her actual looks. Trump has also faced scrutiny in the past for comments he has made about women calling them "fat pigs" and "slobs." Trump has also attacked Fiorina's record as CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

"She failed miserably at Hewlett-Packard and ran for the Senate and lost in a landslide and now running for president. I'm talking about her persona," Trump said.

"It's interesting to me that Mr. Trump said that he heard Mr. Bush very clearly and what Mr. Bush said. I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said," Fiorina said.

Fiorina’s comment was met with applause from the audience.

Earlier in the debate Jeb Bush highlighted that during his time as governor of Florida he increased opportunities for women. Trump had previously said that Bush’s comment that the government does not need to spend half a billion dollars on women’s health care would haunt him for the rest of his campaign. Bush said that he heard Trump clearly and mentioned that the community health centers that have opened up and that is where the federal funding should be going and not to Planned Parenthood.

Previously in the debate Fiorina had called Trump a "wonderful entertainer." The two also clashed on the immigration issue, which has been one of the biggest boons to Trump's popularity in the polls over the course of the summer.
