Former President Bill Clinton compared himself and the Clinton Foundation to Robin Hood in a speech on Monday.
"They even went after my foundation last week. Now that was really funny to me," Clinton said. "Somebody asked me what I thought about it. I said, ‘Well, here’s what I did, I was sort of Robin Hood, except I didn’t rob anybody.’ I just asked people with money to give it to people who didn’t have money and we tried to use it in America and around the world, to save jobs, to create jobs and to save lives."
The Clinton Foundation has come under scrutiny this election cycle because of overlapping interests between the foundation and the State Department while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. Emails from Clinton’s private server released in recent weeks appear to show foundation donors being given access to Clinton’s State Department, raising pay-to-play allegations against the Clintons. Clinton supporters deny foundation donors getting any favors or special treatment, citing the charitable work that the family organization has carried out.
