State Department spokesman Mark Toner was unable to control his laughter on Thursday when he suggested to interns visiting the department’s daily press briefing that it is a place of transparency.
"I think we have some interns in the back. Welcome," Toner said.
"Good to see you in this exercise in transparency and democracy," he added before laughing uncontrollably.
Associated Press reporter Matt Lee quickly responded, "Is that what this is?"
Toner then apologized for breaking out into laughter while continuing to laugh.
"I thought it was an exercise in spin and obfuscation" Lee quipped.
