Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal on Monday in Qatar and invited him to visit Moscow, according to regional reports.
Mashaal, who operates in Qatar, briefed Lavrov and a Russian delegation on the situation in the Gaza Strip, according to Israel HaYom.
The Israeli publication reported:
Mashaal also discussed with Lavrov "Zionist terrorism in the West Bank and its assaults on Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem," the official said.
"The [Russian] foreign minister extended an invitation to the leadership of [Hamas] to visit Moscow, and the movement accepted the invitation and the date will be determined later," the official said.
