Perino: 'Democrats Have Done Long-Term Damage on Protecting the American People'

December 11, 2014

Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said that Senate Democrats have done "long-term damage" when it comes to foreign policy and protecting the American people.

Perino said that following the release of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on CIA interrogation tactics, the agency faces a crisis of morale and "shameful" media coverage over tactics she said saved American lives.

"The way to describe this is the CIA has gathered a haystack. The interrogations gave them the GPS coordinates for where the needle was, and they can't get that by blowing people to smithereens," Perino told Fox’s Martha MacCallum on Thursday.

"I think that the agency has a right to feel betrayed by the Democrats. And I don’t call this a ‘Senate’ report, this is Senate Democrats."

Perino slammed the Obama administration’s claim of moral authority for engaging in a campaign of drone strikes that have killed innocent civilians while criticizing Bush-era interrogation tactics by the CIA.

"We’re dealing with a different type of war. And just remember, in the days after 9/11, the CIA was called to the Hill by both Republicans and Democrats—including Sen. Feinstein—and they were told, ‘Do whatever it takes to make sure this never happens again,’" Perino said.

"Years later, after the CIA has been successful, they turn around and say we did not say to do that. I think that there's going to be long-term damage for the Democrats to come on foreign policy and protecting the American people."
