Lester Holt Compares Trump to Parent Scolding a Child: 'Any Parent Knows' You Have to Be Willing to Back Up Threats

NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt compared President Donald Trump to a parent scolding a child during a discussion Thursday of Trump's rhetoric toward North Korea.

Trump remarked this week that any further threats from North Korea would bring about "fire and fury" from the United States as tensions continued to escalate between the two nations.

Asked about his statements on Thursday in the wake of North Korea's threat to attack Guam, Trump said what he said "maybe wasn't tough enough" and that any aggression from the rogue country toward the U.S. or its allies would bring about a response "like they never thought possible."

Speaking with Andrea Mitchell during a special report on NBC, Holt likened Trump to a parent who gives a child an ultimatum or threat.

"Andrea, more threats," Holt said. "Any parent knows the thing about threats is you have to be willing to back them up."

Before he got a chance to ask Mitchell a question, Trump's gaggle with pool reporters aired.
