A brutal video from the terrorist shootings in Paris shows men armed with Kalashnikov rifles firing heavily in the middle of a street and executing a police officer.
In the video, one of the gunmen walked over to assassinate the wounded officer, previously hit, to shoot him in the head from point-blank range as he held his hands up.
It is believed that the gunmen shouted, "We have avenged the prophet."
Screams can be heard in the background as the two men walked down the street then headed back to their car. The terrorists spoke perfect French, and experts said the video suggests the gunmen had military training. The fact that the attack reportedly happened during a weekly editorial meeting, when a large number of staff could be expected to be present in the office, indicates that the attackers collected intelligence and carefully planned their assault.
The gunmen attacked the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Twelve people were shot dead, and more are in critical condition. Of the 12 killed, 10 were journalists and two were police officers guarding the building.
This is not the first time the French magazine has been attacked. Charlie Hebdo has drawn much protest over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. The building was firebombed in November 2011 on the same day it was set to publish a cover making fun of Islamic Law.
President Obama said in a statement, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this terrorist attack and the people of France."
French President Francoise Hollande immediately called the attack "cowardly" and an act of terror against the French people. He later visited the site of the attack. The French government raised its terror alert to the highest level following the shootings.
The terrorists are at large and on the run as as police continue their search.
