Matthews: Why Weren't Reinforcements Sent in Benghazi?

MSNBC host: Sen. Lindsay Graham is 'onto something'

MSNBC host Chris Matthews was surprisingly critical of the Obama administration's response to Benghazi Monday on Hardball.

Matthews, in reaction to this weekend's 60 Minutes report on Benghazi, questioned why reinforcements were not sent during the over 7-hour attack.

The MSNBC host went on to concede that he believes Sen. Lindsay Graham (R., S.C.) is "onto something" in terms of the South Carolina senator's relentless pursuit of investigating Benghazi:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: […] But is it possible we could hope that the Republicans and Democrats on the committees when they look at this, will focus intently on the reasonable questions like why -- did we do as much as we could at the time? That's to me the most important.

JAY NEWTON-SMALL: These are questions that Hillary is absolutely going to have to put to rest and answer if she's going to ever run for president in 2016. It's a huge sort of black mark on her. She's going to have to really answer to say what was she doing? Why wasn't help given? And when you look at her first term as secretary of state or Obama's first term when she was the secretary of state, what were the achievements that she had? I mean, she normalized relations with Burma, but --

MATTHEWS: I don't want to set her up for this one right now, I just care about what happened that night, because I do think, I think that Lindsey Graham's onto something here. And I know he has to cover his rear end in terms of the right wing in that primary challenge, but sometimes politics does coincide with reasonable government. […]
