Prominent liberal figures were excited when MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow announced Tuesday night that she had President Trump's tax returns, but they were soon disappointed.
Some Democrats and liberal activists jumped at the possibility that Trump's taxes would finally be made public. When Maddow released them, however, many were left angry and disappointed that the returns were only from 2005 and lacked anything scandalous. To make matters worse for Maddow, the White House beat her by preemptively releasing some of Trump's 2005 tax information.
Here is how some liberal figures reacted before and after Maddow's "scoop."

What is stopping Donald Trump from releasing all his taxes? RT if you want to see them now. pic.twitter.com/CsvALxRcJN
— The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) March 15, 2017
After:
I'm sure Trump would prefer to talk about tax returns and not the millions who will lose their health insurance under his plan.

Turn on Rachel @Maddow! MSNBC!

After:
Clearly the source of the "leaked" return is Trump himself. 10-20 missing pages w/ key info. This is to DISTRACT us from Russia, health care

Comedian Billy Eichner

After:
Agree tonight was overhyped but @maddow is brilliant & digs into Trump's corruption every night from every angle in a way few on TV do.
