Speaking from Baltimore, where vicious riots have torn through the city, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin pointed to veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as the reason behind increased violence in the United States.
"I love our nation's veterans, but some are coming back from war, they don't know the communities, and they're ready to do battle," Baldwin said.
Baldwin indicated that veterans who become police officers when they return home seek out violence.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D., Md.) did not disagree. The ranking member on the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform insinuated veterans might not be the right hires to serve as police officers back at home. The congressman said police forces need better training and better recruiting.
"We need to look at our police department from top to bottom and bottom to top to figure out exactly what is being done wrong," Cummings said.
At least 15 police officers have been injured in the Baltimore riots.
