Middle class patients in Delaware are experiencing sky high insurance price hikes, but receiving fewer services with their new plans.
Dr. Douglas Lavenburg of Lavenburg Medical Group told WCAU-PA: "I would say Obamacare is a disaster. I would call it the 'Unaffordable Medical Tax,' let's just call it what it is."
He said that there aren't enough younger, healthy people to pay for the elderly people that frequently need to visit doctors.
Lavenburg sees very few patients enrolled in Obamacare, but he sees many patients who are forced into an Obamacare compliant plan, only to learn that they are paying more money to receive less coverage.
"Their premiums have increased, their deductibles have increased, some of the things have been carved out what was covered is no longer covered. It's been a debacle for the practice," he said.
Doctors at the medical group believe that because not enough young, healthy people signed up for Obamacare, insurance companies are reimbursing doctors less for their services and making patients pay more.
The medical group administrator has found that many of their middle class patients are paying for their benefits, but still are not able to afford the services they need.
"They're being sticker-shocked," another doctor at the medical group explained to WCAU-PA.
