Fox News host Tucker Carlson has nearly double the ratings of his predecessor, Megyn Kelly, for the same primetime slot.

In the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic, Carlson's show, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," is up 95 percent over Kelly's former show, "The Kelly File," the Hill reported Tuesday.

The ratings from Nielsen Media Research show Carlson's primetime show averaging 775,000 viewers each night in the demographic from Jan. 11 to Jan. 22, while Kelly had pulled in an average of 398,000 viewers per night from the same period last year.

In overall ratings, Carlson is up 37 percent, with 3.73 million viewers, while Kelly had 2.72 million viewers.

Carlson took over the 9 p.m. time slot after Kelly announced that she would be leaving Fox to go to NBC. Carlson had hosted a show on Fox News at 7 p.m. before filling in the later slot. Kelly was reportedly offered approximately $20 million a year to stay at Fox, but she accepted an offer for less money that had hours allowing her to spend more time with her children.

The 25- to 54-year-old demographic is the most desired by advertisers. Higher viewership in this demographic leads to more money for broadcasters.
