Bolton PACs Haul in $800K

February 3, 2014

Ambassador John Bolton’s Super PACs raised a total of $800,000 in the fourth quarter of 2013, the groups reported last Friday.

The PACs will reportedly work to support strong foreign policy candidates and help elevate defense as an electoral issue.

Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during the George W. Bush administration, has criticized the isolationist elements of his own party and hinted at a potential presidential run in 2016.

A representative for the John Bolton PAC said the committee is not aimed at countering foreign policy trends in the GOP, but will focus on promoting strong national security candidates and making "national security issues an issue again in the election process."

"Right now it seems very few Americans consider a candidate’s foreign policy stance," he said.

The Bolton PAC said the ambassador has been working to identify candidates to support.

"There are too many issues around the world that require American leadership, " Bolton said in a press release on Friday. "We need leaders who understand that America’s security and a robust economy are tied together."
