NBC News reporter Chuck Todd said the "White House is praying for impeachment" and Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer was "the most excited person" in Washington yesterday after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) appeared to leave open the possibility for impeachment of President Obama after refusing to unequivocally rule it out when questioned by Fox News' Chris Wallace.
"The most excited person yesterday was Dan Pfeiffer," Todd said. "The fact is Steve Scalise is right. The White House is praying for impeachment. They want this. They see nothing but political upside to this and think a lawsuit frankly is good politics."
Todd's statement came after host Joe Scarborough gave a "Master Class" in how Republicans should be responding to any questions over impeachment. After a lengthy build-up with Scarborough asking his Republican friends watching at home to take notes and pay close attention to his instructions on the matter, the former Florida congressman had his MSNBC colleagues ask him about impeachment.
Scarborough stared straight into the camera and matter-of-factly said: "No."
End of lesson.
Scarborough then proceeded to hammer Scalise for not giving the unequivocal "no" in the Sunday show interview.
"What is wrong with them?" Scarborough asked, rhetorically. "He's the number three guy! He's not a backbencher! Not a crazy nut like I was. He is the number three ranking Republican in the House of Representatives! And you can’t say 'no' to that answer? It’s devastating!"
