Andrew Stiles and I, your loyal Editor's Bloggers, have contributed chapters to the forthcoming book The Seven Deadly Virtues. Amazon suggests you should be able to purchase it now (in both hardcover and Kindle formats!) so get on that. Imagine an irreverent version of Bill Bennett's The Book of Virtues: serious topics handled with a bit of fun.
You shouldn't buy it because Stiles and I contributed; we're a couple of pikers. The rest of the lineup is pretty nuts, however. The book's editor, Jonathan V. Last, has convinced a slugger's row of conservative writers to contribute. The great P.J. O'Rourke wrote the opening chapter. Jonah Goldberg has a chapter on integrity. Andrew Ferguson has a chapter on prudence. Matt Labash got to write about sex; that's worth the price of admission alone. Christopher Caldwell's chapter is entitled "Curiosity: Maybe the Cat Got What It Had Coming." Joe Queenan pitched in, as did Cheers' Rob Long. Larry Miller, famous stand up comedian and movie star, also contributed a chapter. My friend Mollie Hemingway (and previous winner of "Confessional Lutheran of the Year") also wrote a chapter. Let's not forget about Christopher Buckley, the author of Thank You For Smoking and many other fine novels. His chapter, which comes at the end of the book, is on perseverance. But you won't have to persevere to get to the end of this collection.*
If you don't want to buy the book from Amazon, you can buy it in person! And, as a bonus, meet some of the aforementioned luminaries. AEI is hosting a discussion/debate (and, perhaps more importantly, providing free wine and cheese but mostly wine) on October 28. P.J., Jonah, Rob, and JVL will be joined by Christine Rosen and James Lileks, two more of our contributors. Plus, I'll be there! If you've ever wanted to tell me how wrong I am about Sucker Punch in person as opposed to online, now's your chance! Plus: free wine!
Anyway, buy the book. It'll take you 10 seconds. But that 10 second investment will lead to countless** hours of entertainment. And you want to be entertained, do you not?
