Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) warned of major job losses should sequestration go into effect in a press conference Thursday morning.
"We don't need to be having something like sequestration that's going to cause these job losses, over 170 million jobs that could be lost," Waters said Thursday.
Studies have generally put the potential jobs lost at 1 million. The employed segment of the civilian labor force in January 2013 was 143 million, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
