State Dept Won't Provide Documentation for Benghazi ‘Rewards for Justice’ Program

November 18, 2013

State Department Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed her department would not provide documentation confirming the addition of Benghazi suspects to the State Department’s ‘Rewards for Justice’ program during Monday’s press briefing.  The State Department has yet to publicize the suspects’ names on the Rewards for Justice website, with officials claiming that such publication is unnecessary.

"We -- through consultations, we decided to confirm, but we haven't made the decision to publicize it by putting it officially on the website, et cetera," Psaki said when asked to provide documentation that the suspects were added to the programs’ list in January, as had previously been claimed by the State Department. "But beyond that, in terms of specific documentation, I'm not sure that's something that we would have available for a program like that."

When asked if she could prove that the decision was made by the State Department in January, Psaki told reporters that they were "just going have to take the word of the United States government on that."
