Woman Steals 180K in Social Security Fraud

A woman was accused of stealing $180,216 from the government by cashing a dead man’s Social Security checks for 23 years, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Roni Halsel, whose age and place of residence were not available, took the checks intended for Robert Shelton, who died Aug. 26, 1989, according to a criminal information filed in U.S. District Court.

The theft ended July 3, 2012, according to the document.

Prosecutors charged her with theft of government money.
