Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif) said Friday on ABC's "The View" that the only thing she is running for is the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
During Waters' appearance, co-host Jedediah Bila asked the California Democrat if she plans to run for president in 2020.
"There have been rumors that you might run for president in 2020, I'm hearing here and there," Bila said. "Is there any truth—do you want to make an announcement here today for everyone here?"
Taking a dramatic pause, Waters denied the rumors and said that they were just that—rumors.
"That's simply a rumor everybody," Waters said, followed by a bout of laughter from the audience.
The millennial progressive movement has been pushing for Waters to run for president after she emerged as one of Trump's harshest critics and called for his impeachment multiple times.
Waters had already confirmed that she had "no presidential ambition" in late July, but that did not stop the ladies of "The View" from their hopeful inquiry.
"I am not running for anything except the impeachment of Trump," Waters said.
Waters' answer spurred even more cheers and laughter from the audience and the table of hosts. Co-host Joy Behar even started chanting, "Lock him up," playing off of Trump's campaign chant to "lock up" Hillary Clinton.
