Watch: Democrats Boo Inclusion of God, Jerusalem

September 5, 2012

Democrats at the Time Warner Cable Arena forced Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to hold three votes on the reinsertion of God and Jerusalem in the Democratic Party platform Wednesday--with some booing his declaration that the amendment had passed.

VILLARAIGOSA: I...I guess...

WOMAN: You gotta [unclear] and then let them do what they're gonna do.

VILLARAIGOSA: I'll do that one more time. All those delegates in favor say 'aye.' All those delegates opposed say 'no.' In the opinion of the chair, two-thirds have voted in the affirmative, the motion is adopted, and the platform has been amended as shown on the screen.

Democrats have faced tough questions all week, after the party platform excised portions of the 2008 platform that included the word God and declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

In a stunning reversal Wednesday, the Democratic Party reinserted the language from the 2008 platform--although not other portions concerning Israel that were also removed.
