Van Jones Goes Gender Neutral: Republicans Put Up 'Straw Person Arguments'

June 8, 2017

CNN commentator Van Jones on Thursday used gender-neutral language to take a swipe at Republicans during a discussion about former FBI Director James Comey's congressional testimony.

"Van, [Comey] said he leaked the memos because he wanted a special prosecutor, so if he really thought there was nothing there would he have wanted a special prosecutor?" host Erin Burnett asked.

Jones said that Republicans and Democrats are in different universes regarding how they view the probe into potential ties between President Donald Trump's associates and Russia.

"I think that we are living in these kind of different universes where the Republicans put up these straw person arguments and say, 'Well see, all Democrats were concerned about was that Donald Trump was under investigation and he wasn't.' That's not all Democrats are concerned about," Jones said.

Instead of saying "straw man argument," Jones opted to use the gender neutral form in an apparent attempt to be politically correct.

One Twitter user was so pleased by Jones' use of gender neutrality that she tweeted at him, asking if she could kiss him on his cheek.
