UN Human Rights Council Applauds Qatar's Human Rights Record Despite Hamas Funding

September 24, 2014

The United Nations Human Rights Council is applauding Qatar’s commitment to human rights, despite its funding of terror group Hamas.

Qatar continues to finance Hamas’ terrorist acts, including the use of Palestinian children as human shields. Yet the U.N. Human Rights Council’s "review" of Qatar had only praise for the country’s human rights efforts.

"We congratulate [Qatar] on the efforts made in the promotion and protection of human rights," read a release from Omani delegates May 17.

"Qatar is a brother country," the delegation from Kuwait said on Sept. 19. "It has made remarkable efforts to promote and protect human rights."

Similar praise of Qatar came from China, Venezuela, Cuba, Djibouti, Iraq, Iran, Belarus, Algeria, Yemen, Vietnam, Lebanon, and even Palestine.

But while diplomats congratulate Qatar’s "commitment" to human rights, the country’s efforts have proven otherwise.
