Fox News host Tucker Carlson debated Bret Chiafalo, a member of the Electoral College delegation from Washington state, on Friday over why Chiafalo feels it is right for him to be able to not vote in the electoral college for the same person the voters in his state chose.
The voters in Washington chose Hillary Clinton, however, Chiafalo believes that he and electors who are from states won by Trump do not need to follow the votes in their states and can vote for third party candidates if they wish.
Carlson asked Chiafalo if he was in favor of the electoral college, to which Chiafalo said that he was obeying the current system technically, the system could be changed in the future.
Carlson then asked Chiafalo about the use of the term, "moral elector."
"You describe yourself as a moral elector," Carlson said. "The suggestion appears to be that people who are following the will of the state's they represent are somehow immoral."
"I don't think that's fair," Chiafalo said. "If their moral compasses tell them that they need to vote for the general election winner in that state, then that's fine. that's their moral compass."
"When I looked at the situation and deliberated and investigated, I came to this conclusion and I feel very comfortable ethically, legally and morally in the decisions I've made," Chiafalo said.
