Donald Trump opponents have united behind a campaign to push a famed Washington, D.C., chef to scrap his plans to open a restaurant in the business mogul’s forthcoming hotel.
A D.C.-area public relations consultant launched the Change.org petition to discourage Spanish-American chef José Andrés from opening a new restaurant in the Trump property being conceived out of the old Post Office Pavilion building near the White House.
The petition author Erick Sanchez, who last year launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to get musician Kenny Loggins to play a show in his living room, cites Trump’s "insensitive remarks against Mexican immigrants" as reason for Andrés to rethink his business relationship with the billionaire Republican presidential candidate.
The petition has already collected over 1,900 signatures.
"José Andrés embodies the American dream and is a huge role model for the Hispanic community, having moved from Spain to start a family and create one of the most successful restaurant chains in culinary history," the petition reads, calling Andrés to "dump Trump."
Multiple organizations, including Univision, NBCUniversal and the Professional Golf Association, have cut ties with Trump because of his comments about Mexican illegal immigrants.
Trump is suing Univision for $500 million.
