President-elect Donald Trump has offered Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions (R.) the position of attorney general in his cabinet, CBS News reported Friday.
Rumors of the pick started to rise when the transition team put out a statement after Sessions was seen at Trump Tower on Thursday to meet with the president-elect.
"The president-elect has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's attorney general and U.S. attorney," the statement said. "It is no wonder the people of Alabama reelected him without opposition."
Sessions will head the Department of Justice for the incoming Trump administration in his capacity as attorney general.
CBS confirmed the pick Friday morning.
