Nine swing-district Democrats joined House Republicans in voting to keep the government funded and delay the individual mandate in Obamacare for a year, late Monday evening. They are:
- Jim Matheson (Utah), a conservative Democrat who beat Republican challenger Mia Love by 0.3 percent of the vote in 2012;
- Mike McIntyre (N.C.), who won by 0.2 percent of the vote in the 7th district in 2012, and is expected to "be the last of the 7th 's conservative Democrats." "Keeping our government open to perform necessary functions and provide essential services is paramount," McIntyre said of his vote. "Delaying the health care law is necessary for individuals, small businesses, and our economy";
- Sean Maloney (N.Y.), who serves the Republican-leaning 18th district in New York, and won by 3.9 percent of the vote in 2012;
- Ron Barber (Ariz.), who had replaced Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in a special election, narrowly defeated his Republican challenger in the 2nd District, winning by 0.8 percent of the vote in 2012;
- Steven Horsford (Nev.), who said he was "compelled to take a stand for his constituents":
I vote for an amendment to the continuing resolution tonight because I’m calling for fairness for those Americans who receive their health care through self-insured employer plans. In my home state, hundreds of thousands of Nevadans would be penalized because they are not eligible for tax credits as they receive health care through insurance plans from gaming, construction, and small-business employers.
- Dan Maffei (N.Y.), who represents the 24th district in New York, formerly held by Ann Marie Buerkle (R.). Maffei supports the repeal of the medical device tax and voted to delay the employer and individual mandates in July.
Others voting with Republicans included John Barrow (Ga.), Raul Ruiz (Calif.), and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), each in swing districts.
