Hillary Clinton’s longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal shared his inaccurate analysis of the 2010 British general election in a message sent to her private email address.

"[David] Cameron can’t break through," predicted Blumenthal. "Two-thirds of the voters simply hate the Tories." He went on to praise the performance of Nick Clegg, the leader of the center-left Liberal Democrats in a television debate.

The Conservative Party won the most seats in the 2010 general election, and Cameron became prime minister after forming a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats.

In another message on the subject sent to Clinton, Blumenthal mentioned Tony Blair, the former British prime minister. "The British public feels like the wife he abandoned for George W. Bush, wants vengeance, yet still pines for him." He also compared Gordon Brown, Blair’s successor, to Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, misspelling the name of the iconic literary character.

Bill Clinton enjoyed a close relationship with Blair both in and out office. Their friendship was the subject of a BBC television drama.
