Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R., Penn.) discussed the need for the Republican Party to reach more blue-collar voters Tuesday on Morning Joe.
"You hear this talk about establishment Republicans versus the Tea Party, but I think it's establishment Republicans versus sort of the working guy," he said. "You have all these folks who fund campaigns who are focused just on big businesses and Wall Street and even small business, all of which are important elements of our society, but we forget the idea where a rising tide lifts all boats. Not if your boat has a hole in it, and a lot of Americans have holes in their boats. "
Host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, agreed, saying blue-collar voters win the GOP elections.
Santorum and were congressional colleagues in the late 1990s. Santorum, after being defeated in his re-election bid to the U.S. Senate in 2006, was a 2012 Republican candidate for president.
