Republican Roy Blunt Defeats Democrat Jason Kander in Missouri Senate Race

Republican Sen. Roy Blunt will retain his seat in the Senate after his Democratic challenger Jason Kander conceded the race Tuesday night.

Blunt won with 50 percent of the total votes to Kander's 45 percent, according to the Associated Press.

Republicans also won Missouri's governorship with Eric Greitens, a former Navy SEAL, and its 10 electoral college votes for presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Missouri's Senate race became somewhat of a swing race after Kander put out an ad in September of him assembling a rifle while blindfolded. However, that ad was not enough to knock off Blunt, who has influential positions on multiple Senate committees.

Blunt's reelection will allow him to serve his second term in the Senate.
