Demonstrators on Monday temporarily took over Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer's (N.Y.) office on Capitol Hill to protest his ties to Wall Street.

More than two dozen protesters occupied and were subsequently removed from the office of Schumer, who is expected to become the top Democratic senator as Senate minority leader this coming session of Congress, the Associated Press reported.

The U.S. Capitol Police had to remove the couple of dozen protestors.

The protesters wanted self-declared socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) to instead lead Senate Democrats after Republicans won the presidency and maintained control of both houses of Congress after last week's elections.

The people who occupied Schumer's office were from different far-left political groups that included Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter, the AP noted. The demonstrators criticized Schumer's Wall Street ties, and said they closely mirror those of Hillary Clinton, which they argued ultimately caused her to lose the presidential election to Donald Trump.

The protestors also urged everyone to block Trump's policy agenda, although Schumer has said he may be willing to work with the president-elect.
