During a debate between Louisiana Senate candidates Rep. Bill Cassidy (R., La.) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D., La.), the moderator called Landrieu out for using a large amount of taxpayer money for a short charter flight.
Landrieu paid $5,500 for a short charter flight from New Orleans to Lake Charles.
"That is one specific charter that jumped out at people," the moderator said. "If that had happened in the business world I think at most business people would have been laughed out of the room if they suggested having that kind of expense charged to a company."
"First of all every senator and every congressman gets the budget," Landrieu said. "We can allocate a budget within those guidelines as we see fit. These are legal expenses, and the only difference is there was a bookkeeping error of misallocation."
