Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens (R.) held his first dinner in the governor's mansion with foster care families on Tuesday night.
Greitens posted on Facebook that instead of the normal invitees to many such dinners, he and the state's first lady, Sheena, asked three foster care families to join them instead.
"Last night, Sheena and I held our first dinner at the governor's mansion. Over the next few years, many people will visit our new home," Greitens posted. "We wanted to honor people who, too often, go unrecognized. We wanted to learn from people who, too often, go unheard."
"Instead of insiders, special interests, and lobbyists, we invited three foster care families," Greitens continued. "Sheena and I were moved by their compassion, their wisdom, and their strength. We learned from them and were inspired by them."
Greitens went on to highlight the 13,000 children in the state's foster care system and asked for help to assist them.
