Markay: Obama Was First to Try to Circumvent Media

Washington Free Beacon reporter Lachlan Markay appeared Monday night on Fox Business' Kennedy and said that President Obama was the first in the White House to try to circumvent the media.

Host Kennedy asked if the internet and Twitter were making the media obsolete as President-elect Donald Trump tweets to the public himself quite frequently, noting that former Vice President Dick Cheney made that point in a recent forum.

"Blame Obama," Markay said. "He really got this trend rolling and he looked for ways from the beginning of his presidency to circumvent the media and rather ingeniously I think, putting out videos on the White House website, no longer utilizing Twitter."

Markay then said that he could not say if Trump was carefully planning out his tweets or if he just tweeted what he thought at the time.

"There is a line between CNN and just saying all the crazy stuff that pops in your head on Twitter," Markay continued. "He can effectively use new media to circumvent traditional threats without sort of going crazy."
