Local News Political Editor on Hillary Clinton's Visit: 'The Way She's Campaigning Isn't Real'

April 22, 2015

Hillary Clinton has been trying to prove she is just like everyday Americans—but one Boston political editor, Andy Hiller, said the exact opposite is happening.

Hiller followed Clinton to her first event in New Hampshire and was immediately pushed back, only catching a tiny glimpse of her as she walked into the New Hampshire Technology Institute.

Clinton has come off in the past as "cold" to voters and unable to connect. In her announcement video, Clinton said she wants to be the champion for everyday Americans, which means "ordinary," "run-of-the-mill" Americans—words that are not normally used to describe Clinton. Hiller said everyday Americans have noticed.

Hiller interviewed two New Hampshire residents and asked if they felt if she was an "everyday American."

"Definitely not," said one New Hampshire resident. "She has a mansion or two. She’s rich. She has no clue what it is like to be unemployed for a couple years."

June Whitcomb, a Clinton supporter, said that she thinks that Clinton would like to live like an everyday American but cannot.

"She’s in the limelight, and when you are in the limelight, you can’t live like an everyday person," said Whitcomb.

Hiller closed out by saying that every candidate wants to be authentic.

"But by the way, Hillary Clinton’s campaigning isn’t real. And until she changes it, everyday Americans will see that every day."
