Jailed Virginia Former Dem Lawmaker: Let Inmates Keep Porn

Joe Morrissey, a Democrat-turned-independent member of the Virginia House of Delegates who is serving time in jail after accepting guilt for a relationship with a 17-year-old girl, wants inmates to be able to keep their porn, NBC Washington reports.

Del. Joe Morrissey voted Wednesday against a bill that would prohibit inmates from possessing obscene material.

The bill passed by a broad majority and its sponsor said the state's wardens support the measure so that they can keep "hard-core" pornography out of the hands of inmates.

Morrissey told reporters that the measure won't survive legal challenges and noted that he is a former constitutional law professor.

Morrissey is currently serving a six-month jail sentence for his relationship with a 17-year-old girl working in his law office.

He resigned his seat after accepting guilt, but won re-election in January. Morrissey is on a work-release program, which allows him to spend his days in the Virginia General Assembly and spend his nights in jail.
