Israeli intelligence officials believe Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on civilians on Wednesday, Israel Hayom reports.
Syrian opposition said Sarin gas was used to kill over 1,300 people.
Minister of International, Intelligence, and Strategic Affairs Yuval Steinitz spoke with Israel Radio Thursday. He says the international community is not moving fast enough when it comes to Syria.
"The U.N. is still busy investigating things that happened six months or a year ago, instead of investigating what happened yesterday. Moreover, investigating whether chemical weapons were used without looking into who used them is ridiculous," Steinitz told Israel Radio.
Another Israeli intelligence official expressed concern that the situation in Syria could reach Israel.
"Everything is still only happening around us and it hasn’t reached us yet, but Israel knows that reality can change within moments, not just by a terror attack on one of the borders, but as a result of strategic political shifts in the region," he said.
Several world leaders have called for an investigation into the Wednesday attack, but China and Russia, allies of Syria, have moved to block the United Nations Security Council from launching an official investigation into the situation.
