'Guess what? Yes, we do'

VPOTUS says the administration wants to raise taxes by a trillion dollars, that's 'called fairness where I come from'

Vice President Joe Biden said he and President Obama want to raise taxes by a trillion dollars during a Thursday campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The vice president imitated those who claim Obama and he want to raise taxes before announcing they want to do just that.

"'Obama and Biden want to raise taxes by $1 trillion.' Well, guess what? Yes, we do--in one regard, we want to let that trillion-dollar tax cut expire so the middle class doesn't have to bear that burden of all that money going to the super wealthy," Biden said.

The vow to raise taxes is not without precedent for presidential tickets.

Walter Mondale famously said taxes would go up in his Democratic National Convention speech in 1984.

"Whoever is inaugurated in January, the American people will have to pay Mr. Reagan's bills," Mondale said. "The budget will be squeezed, taxes will go up, and anyone who says they won't is not telling the truth to the American people."
