Gowdy: Trump Jr. Story 'Undermining the Credibility' of Trump Administration

July 11, 2017

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) slammed the Trump administration on Tuesday for the ongoing "drip, drip, drip" of stories about its possible ties to Russia.

It was revealed over the weekend that Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer last year in a meeting motivated by promised information about Hillary Clinton, his father's presidential opponent. Trump Jr. released emails on Tuesday showing an intermediary informed him it was part of a Russian governmental effort to aid his father's campaign.

In a clip flagged by the Weekly Standard, Gowdy was interviewed by host Martha MacCallum about the most recent Russia-related revelation.

"So in terms of this Donald Jr. story that's out there today, are you troubled by any of it?" MacCallum asked.

"I am troubled on three levels. Number one, the legal level, but I think that is Bob Mueller's lane," he said, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation.

"The political level, Martha, here we are beginning another week, this one in July, with a new revelation about Russia," Gowdy said. "And then the third, which is more of a medical issue, is the amnesia of people that are in the Trump orbit."

"Someone close to the president needs to get everyone connected with that campaign in a room and say, from the time you saw Doctor Zhivago, until the moment you drank vodka with a guy named Boris, you list every single one of those, and we are going to turn them over to the special counsel," Gowdy said, "because this drip, drip, drip, it is undermining the credibility of this administration."
