New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slammed President Obama on Thursday for assigning blame to the intelligence community over the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) threat rather than taking responsibility for the extremists' rise.
Christie referenced the president’s remarks from Sunday’s 60 Minutes interview, in which Obama said "they underestimated" the threat from ISIL.
"He used the word ‘they’--he said 'they underestimated it,'" Christie said. "Don’t say ‘they’ underestimated it, Mr. President. ‘We’ underestimated it-his administration--‘he’ underestimated it. You need to be accountable for those things. You’re not always directly responsible, but you need when you’re the leader to be accountable."
Congress has questioned President Obama’s level of engagement after learning earlier this week that he ignores up to 60 percent of his daily briefings.
