David Axelrod: I Would Have Advised Against Hillary's Paid Speeches and Disastrous Book Tour

February 12, 2015

Amid confusion over Hillary Clinton’s messaging, Obama’s former senior adviser David Axelrod said he does not really think Clinton is acting like a candidate for president. He also said that the reason Obama won is because they developed a message early and stuck to it.

Axelrod said in a Politico podcast that Clinton has found herself in an unusual situation. She is the presumed candidate, mostly because she has run before and was "out and around" because of her book. When asked whether he had advised Clinton, Axlerod said he would have advised against doing the six-figure paid speeches and book tour.

"She had some opportunities she wanted to seize, and she did that," Axelrod said.
