Bruce Braley's Faux Pas

Politico's Mike Allen appeared on Morning Joe to discuss the "worst campaigns" of 2014, taking aim at Bruce Braley (D., Iowa), whom he called a "hapless candidate."

"Braley first got in trouble during the government shutdown, Allen said. "He was whining in the press that the house gym had shut down and that they weren't getting towel service.

"Not a great way to connect with your constituents."

Host Joe Scarborough and Meet The Press host Chuck Todd took turns mocking Braley for his condescending statements about his opponent, Chuck Grassley:

"You may have a farmer who never went to law school serving as the next chair of the judiciary committee," Braley said. "Because if Democrats lose the election, Chuck Grassley will be the next chair."

Todd found the comment laughable and offered some advice to Braley's Republican opponent:

"If I were Chuck Grassley I would have done the old Phil Hartman impression, 'I'm just a caveman, I'm just a farmer,'" Todd said. "I'm just a simple caveman lawyer."
