Biden Promotes Former Lobbyist, Former WaPo Reporter

Vice President Joe Biden is promoting two staff members following an announcement Wednesday morning that his chief of staff Bruce Reed is departing in mid-December, Politico reports.

Steve Ricchetti, who has served as Biden’s counselor since March 2012, will replace Reed as chief of staff. Ricchetti previously served as a senior adviser to the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry as well as the reelection campaign for President Clinton. Ricchetti also built Ricchetti Inc. into a top lobbying firm.

Shailagh Murray is also being promoted, according to Politico. She will become deputy chief of staff when Reed departs. Shailagh has served as Biden’s communications director and will continue in that role. She was previously a Capitol Hill correspondent for the Washington Post. She also covered Congress and politics for the Wall Street Journal.
