Arizona Dem Candidate: I Would 'Absolutely' Support Resolution to Impeach Trump

A former congresswoman running in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District said in July that she would "absolutely" vote for a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump if the Democrats take back the House in November, according to audio posted on YouTube.

Former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D., Ariz.) attended an event at the Viscount Suite Hotel in Tucson, Arizona. She was asked by a constituent whether she would support an impeachment resolution if Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) got it on the floor.

"I’m taking account of electability and whatnot, but there’s also other issues and I’m having a crisis of conscience as far as electability versus voting with what I believe in… if it like came to the floor to impeach Trump, like if Maxine Waters got that on there, would you vote for that?" the constituent asked.

She told the constituent that she would "absolutely" vote for the resolution and that she thought she would probably get a chance to do that.

"Do you think that's going to happen if you win?" the constituent asked.

"Yeah," she responded.

The constituent then expressed his concerns about moderate Democrats potentially spiking the resolution, prompting Kirkpatrick to respond, "I don't think so."

"You don't think so?" the constituent asked.

"I don’t think so," Kirkpatrick replied. "Not with the destruction that this president is doing to our country."

At the time of publishing, Kirkpatrick's campaign had not responded to questions regarding where she stands on impeachment.

Kirkpatrick won the packed Democratic primary late last month and will be facing Tucson Hispanic Chamber CEO Lea Marquez Peterson in November to fill the seat currently held by Rep. Martha McSally, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
