Since announcing her run for the presidency, Hillary Clinton has taken on a more progressive agenda and addressed topics such as immigration reform and income inequality
MSNBC host Alex Wagner said she did not understand how Clinton could talk about income inequality while her husband continues to make big appearances and accept six-figure speaking fees. Wagner said the appearances dramatically complicate the optics that could follow Hillary throughout the campaign.
"They do want to cast her campaign as about something going forward and not just answering for things in the past," the New York Times’ Peter Baker said. "And the big thing on the Democratic plate and even some Republican plates is what to do about the economic disparity."
Baker also said the perception is that the Clintons travel in money-rich circles, and that Clinton will have to find a way to reconcile conversations about Bill accepting six-figure speaking fees.
