White House Press Secretary Jay Carney continued to receive heat from the press corps Thursday, as reporters asserted that access to the press is currently worse than it was under President George W. Bush.
CNN’s Brianna Keilar asked whether the Obama administration had set a different standard for itself in its repeated claims that is was the most transparent in history. Keilar noted, "anyone here can tell you that there's less access than under the Bush administration."
Carney immediately sought to discredit Keilar’s claim, mockingly asking if she had even covered the Bush administration. Keilar responded that she had, in fact, covered the previous president on numerous occasions.
Carney then sought to downplay accusations over limited access, but his answers were not sufficient for Keilar:
"I mean, you’re saying you’re working with people. But what does that mean? Are you actually doing something or you’re just talking about it?"
Carney could only respond that the outcome would "not produce complete satisfaction".
