With one week to go until Wisconsin voters decide whether to recall him, Gov. Scott Walker still leads his Democratic opponent by a seven-point margin, according to a poll released Wednesday.
The Marquette University Law poll has Walker up 52 percent to 45 percent over his opponent, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. The poll surveyed 600 likely voters and was taken last Wednesday through Saturday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.
According to the Marquette poll, 50 percent of voters say Walker is better at creating jobs, compared with 43 percent for Barrett. In addition, 30 percent or respondents thought Wisconsin has lost jobs under Walker, compared to 37 percent two weeks ago.
An internal Democratic poll also released Wednesday found Walker and Barrett deadlocked, at 49 percent each. The poll, commissioned by the pro-labor Greater Wisconsin Committee’s political fund, reported independents are breaking towards Barrett, 49 percent to 44 percent.
However, external polling over the past month has consistently given Walker around a five-point lead.
