A South Florida man challenging Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R., Fla.) for Congress has legally changed his name from Eddie Gonzalez to VoteForEddie.com in a bid to increase his name recognition.
The Orlando Sun Sentinel reports:
Armed with the new name, the candidate says he's ready to challenge U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Miami, in a district that includes part of southwest Broward. He has qualified for the November ballot.
To him, it's nothing to LOL about.
Once a Walmart clerk and seller of financial products on commission who is now a 31-year-old studying economics at Broward College's Davie campus, he said voters wouldn't give him a second thought without his new identity.
"They would skip over Eddie Gonzalez," he said in a telephone interview, explaining he'd have "no means of communication without an unconventional tactic to get my name out there and to get my ideas out there."
