Australia's Channel Seven network released video of five hostages escaping after an apparent jihadist militant took control of a Sydney cafe Monday.
The video shows the terrified hostages fleeing the building in the heart of Sydney's financial district as police officers secured their release.
New South Wales Deputy Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said police negotiators have contact with the armed hostage-taker inside and continue to push for the release of the remaining hostages.
"We will work through this, as we do with our negotiators. It might take a bit of time, and a peaceful resolution will be what we are working toward," Burn said.
"We have our police negotiators on site. They are some of the best in the world, and we are very fortunate that we have these police dealing with the matter at the moment."
