A series of gunshots and explosions were heard as police stormed a cafe taken over by an Iranian jihadist in Sydney, Australia on Monday.
Sydney police rushed into the building to free the remaining hostages after five escaped from the Lindt cafe in Sydney's financial district.
The gunman, self-styled Islamic cleric Man Haron Monis, emigrated to Australia in 1996 and was charged with being an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife.
After the police raid, several people were said to be injured, but Monis's status was still unknown.
