A man armed with a weapon hijacked a bus in Washington, D.C., Tuesday morning, causing multiple accidents and killing a pedestrian.
NBC Washington, citing D.C. police, reported that the suspect assaulted the Metrobus driver using a weapon before hijacking the bus Tuesday morning. The bus then hit a person and caused several accidents before crashing at a gas station in Northeast Washington.
The individual who was hit by the bus was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The individual, who was later described as a gas station employee, suffered fatal injuries.
The suspect mounted the bus in the 3800 block of Jay Street Northeast around 10:30 A.M. local time and attacked the driver shortly after. Passengers exited the bus when the suspect attacked the driver.
The driver suffered a non-life threatening back injury when exiting the bus himself.
Police have taken the suspect into custody, according to NBC. The weapon he used has not yet been identified.
